Barbara Kasten
Born Chicago (USA) 1936
Work:
Kasten trained under the Bauhaus student Trude Guermonprez. She began by producing textile sculptures. She turned to photography in 1975. Her first works wer non camera images of photograms of geometric forms. In the late 1970s this led to three dimensional assemblies of the geometric elements which she initially photographed only for documentary purposes. In 1980 she began to produce photo installational pieces. Many of the surfaces are white and grey and the colours in her photographs are formed by illumination using seperate lighting for each colour.
