Shadows / Self-Portrait

Photographs of Rake Lane

I have always disliked taking portraits but have frequently wanted to portray a figure and its relationship with the landscape, but I have always prefered photographing alone. I began to see shadows as a way of capturing this relationship and the non-specific nature of shadows re: gender etc.
'A man walking along was casting a shadow, and one could not tell which was the man and which the shadow nor how much shadow he cast.' Yeats
